Sweet Escape Pastries’ founder and CEO, Melissa Degen, acquired a taste for fine pastries early in life from her favorite chef: her grandmother. After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Melissa worked as a design engineer, architect and manager in the fast-paced environment of high-tech. In early 2004, Melissa and her daughter Ashley received a life altering diagnosis of Celiac Disease. Soon after, she welcomed her son Sam into the world – also diagnosed as Celiac.
As a Celiac family, they soon realized that there were not many gluten-free options available on the market, and even less options to eat in restaurants. Melissa wanted her children to experience amazing pizzas and pastas like she did as a child from her grandmother. Thus, she started Sweet Escape Pastries to offer only the best gluten-free pizza crust and pastas for not just her family, but people across the nation. Melissa now uses her background in mathematics, physics, and chemistry to custom design automation to manufacture products of the highest quality at scale for nationwide distribution. Sweet Escape Pastries leads the way in breaking new ground for taste and quality among the options available for people with allergy concerns. |
